SEO’s magic formula – not any more!
“People would ask what keyword density they needed to focus on, or how many words they should use in their Title tag. Well-meaning attendees would ask for the magic number of links to get per week or how to know exactly when to request an incoming link instead of a reciprocal link. In other words, everyone wanted to know the magic formula that would guarantee them great results.
The problem with this line of questioning is that there is no magic formula. Each and every time these questions were asked, the panelists would carefully try to explain that while there may have been magic numbers in the past, those days are behind us now.”офис столове

Damn…. WordPress is GOOD!
As a person who is involved in hosting and managing, or advising on the management of other peoples websites, over the last 3-4 years i’ve been using and recommending a number of CMS type packages which would, hopefully, allow my technically challenged clients to do their own page editing.
I came across WordPress a couple of years ago, but never gave it much thought as a CMS package because I was under the impression it was software you used if you wanted to set up a Blog.
Wow, was I wrong or what? Sure Wordpress is one of the best Blog software packages around, but there’s a LOT more to it than that.
About a month ago I read an article by Jennifer Laycock of SearchEngineGuide.com which sang the praises of WordPress as a CMS packages, so I thought i’d best check it out. And my conclusion…. it’s probably THE best CMS package around too for lots of reasons….
- it is very easy to use even for the most technically challenged
- it has plugins which allow for just about every requirement of a small business website, shopping cart, forms, tables etc etc.
- it has LOTS of very professional looking templates available, which can be quite easily modified ( although I must admit modifying a template does require a little more techiness ;-}
- it is search engine friendly, as long as you remember to set the right Permalink options when setting up your website
- itis FREE software which can be easily installed either manually or via Fantastico which is available through cPanel with our website hosting packages
The longer I spend working with Wordpress the more convinced I am that it is THE best option for most small business websites. If you aren’t using it you should, if you want to find out more about how to get it installed on your domain contact me.
The importance of good copy
Creating well written keyword rich copy for your website pages is THE single most important thing you need to do when establishing your website.
Sure, the ‘look’ of the website isn’t to be ignored, but the time and money spent on getting that right instead of on getting the copy right is usually totally disproportionate to it’s importance in the overall scheme of things. If website owners and developers spent as much time on getting the copy right as they do on the ‘look’, there would be a lot more successful websites around.
As you may have guessed this is a little obsession of mine because, as a website builder, I have often been in the position of being blamed for a websites lack of success. This after spending months fruitlessly cajoling the owner to provide me with some decent copy for their web pages.

Social Media…. say what?
Those of us who have been involved in developing and marketing websites for a while ( like 10 years….. OMG ) have seen many developments in SEO, SEM etc, but this latest development is a biggy.
Maybe it’s because i’m a little older than most involved in the industry, or maybe i’m just not very sociable
, but I haven’t been too interested in the Social Networking revolution that has been happening over the last couple of years. However i’ve had the big wake up call and i’m starting to see that Social Media is ALREADY a MAJOR factor in ensuring business success on the WWW.
So i’m getting my head down and reading all I can on the subject and I intend to share the better info I find with you. To that end check out this article….
